Stories and highlights
A year at our school
Whether your child joins one of our many extra-curricular clubs or sporting teams, there are many exciting activities and events for your family to enjoy throughout the school year.
Smoking Ceremony for National Sorry Day and the start of Reconciliation Week
On Monday our school had the privilege of welcoming Uncle Laurie, a respected Aboriginal elder, to share a significant cultural tradition—a smoking ceremony. This ancient practice, performed on our grounds, is a special way to cleanse and welcome people.
Students and staff gathered on Country to watch Uncle Laurie gently light a small fire. The air filled with fragrant smoke as children were invited to walk through, symbolically cleansing themselves and preparing for the journey ahead. Uncle Laurie explained how the ceremony fosters healing, connection, and respect for the land and its people.
The event was a meaningful opportunity for everyone to learn more about Aboriginal culture and celebrate the wisdom of local elders. We thank Uncle Laurie for sharing his traditions and helping our school community feel welcomed and connected.
Warringah Zone Cross Country 2026
Mimosa students recently participated in the Warringah Zone Cross Country Carnival at Lionel Watts Oval, with Mimosa PS finishing in third place. Six of our girls qualified to represent the Warringah Zone at the Sydney North Carnival. Such a wonderful achievement and we wish them all the best.
The 'Big Bang' was here!
Students recently enjoyed a day full of hands-on science activities, including making optical illusions, exploring sub-zero temperatures with liquid nitrogen, viewing cells through digital microscopes, and learning sustainable Indigenous science. Some built marble mazes from recycled materials, while others explored astronomy and watched the Artemis launch live.
"My children have had a wonderful experience at Mimosa. The teachers are dedicated, caring, and always go the extra mile to support each student’s learning and wellbeing. The school provides a warm, inclusive environment where every child is encouraged to achieve their best and develop confidence in their abilities.
Beyond academics, there are so many opportunities to explore interests in sport, the arts, and leadership. My children have learned valuable life skills, made lasting friendships, and grown both personally and academically. We are proud to be part of a school community that values respect, kindness, and excellence."
